Bruno Gutmann (1876 – 1966) was a German missionary among the Chagga of East Africa from 1902 to 1938. This survey on the common law of the Wachaga is a monumental and thorough work. The Winterton copy with his bookplate, with the ownership stamp of William Bascom to the title page, a very nice copy in a recent dark green quarter morocco with marbled boards.
